Safeguard Business Consulting was founded in Townsville, North Queensland, by Timothy Staatz to meet a growing need for practical, plain-English safety solutions.
As a long-term local now raising his family in Townsville, Timothy saw too many businesses weighed down by compliance paperwork that added no real value. Safeguard was created to help regional businesses move beyond “tick-box” exercises and implement safety systems that genuinely work — systems that protect people, meet legal obligations, and strengthen business performance.

About Timothy Staatz
With more than 20 years of experience across safety, compliance, auditing, and risk management, Timothy has supported industries including construction, fabrication, mining, engineering, manufacturing, retail, and services.
He holds a Bachelor of Occupational Health & Safety, a Graduate Certificate in Accident Phenomenology, and diplomas in Quality Auditing and Applied Science. He is an accredited Exemplar Global Lead Auditor (OHSM) and one of only ~30 Federal Safety Officers nationwide.
Timothy also serves as a committee member of the Australian Institute of Health & Safety (AIHS) Queensland Branch and has been a volunteer Scout leader for over 20 years, earning the prestigious Queen Scout Award for service and leadership.
Career highlights include:
- Leading 130+ independent QSE and compliance audits across Australia.
- Developing bespoke Quality, Safety & Environmental (QSE) systems for SMEs and large contractors.
- Supporting major projects such as the Haughton Pipeline, Port of Townsville expansion, and Defence facility upgrades.
- Training auditors and mentoring internal QSE officers to lift safety capability across organisations.

- Project work across construction, fabrication, and infrastructure.
- A decade managing hospitality operations across Queensland.
- Seven years as Operations Manager, Townsville Branch, for the largest private fresh produce supplier in Australia.
- Lifelong involvement in Scouts Australia, including leadership roles and achieving the prestigious Queen Scout Award.
